On December 25, 1949, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje was born in the community of Ganduje in the Dawakin Local Government Area of Kano State.

He is a politician from Nigeria who is now the governor of Kano state. He served as the deputy governor of Kano state for two terms under Rabiu Kwankwaso.

He began his early education in Qur’anic and Islamiyya school in his hamlet of Ganduje, where he received training in Islamic knowledge.

He eventually relocated to the local government’s administrative center, where he attended Dawakin Tofa Primary School from 1956 to 1963.

From 1964 to 1968, Ganduje studied at the esteemed Government College, Birnin Kudu. From 1969 and 1972, Ganduje attended the Advanced Teachers’ College in Kano.

After that, he went to Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria, Kaduna State, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in science education in 1975. In 1979, he graduated with a master’s in applied educational psychology from Bayero University in Kano.

From 1984 to 1985, he went to Ahmadu Bello University to pursue a master’s in public administration. He earned a doctorate in public administration.

During the Second Nigerian Republic, Ganduje joined the NPN and held the position of Assistant Secretary for Kano State from 1979 to 1980. Under the NPN, he ran for the House of Representatives in 1979 but was unsuccessful.

He served at the Federal Capital Development Authority in a variety of capacities from 1984 to 1994, and in that year he was appointed Kano State Commissioner of the Ministry of Works, Housing, and Transport.

He joined the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in 1998 and sought to represent the party in the governor’s race in the primaries presided over by Tony Momoh, Abdullahi Aliyu Sumaila, Senator Bala Tafidan Yauri, among others; he was defeated by Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

Then, between 1999 and 2003, Ganduje was chosen to serve as Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso’s deputy. He was appointed as the Commissioner for Local Government in addition to the position of deputy governor.

He worked as the Minister of Defence’s Special Advisor (Political) from 2003 to 2007. Moreover, Ganduje worked in Ndjamena as the Lake Chad Basin Commission’s executive secretary.

In September 2012, Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan bestowed upon Ganduje the national honor of the Order of the Federal Republic (OFR).

At Bayero University in Kano on October 13, 2016, he was also given the honor of being named a Fellow of the National Association of Educational Administration and Planning (FNAEAP).

In Kano, Ganduje’s administration has had great success. The government has provided young people vocational training, and about 10,000 women have benefited from programs teaching them skills like tailoring and providing them with the materials and equipment they need to run their businesses.

The charity also stated in an online release that its Eye Care Program, which offered glaucoma and cataract sufferers treatment as well as medical eyeglasses, had assisted nearly 380,000 people.
