Well-known musician Charles Chibueze Chukwu, better known by his stage name Crayon, has shared his trench-to-triumphal tale of overcoming significant obstacles as a child.

He disclosed that his family resided in a low-income neighborhood in Lagos known as (face me I face you), and that he used to peddle fruits to passing cars.

The Mavin Records signee claims that he took the JAMB exam five times and was frequently sent home from school for not paying his tuition.

In an interview with Saturday Beats, Crayon revealed that he assisted his mother in selling fruits and worked on his music while he was waiting to be admitted.

The singer, 22, narrated every

In his own words, “My ‘Trench to Triumph’ story tells the story of my upbringing and journey to the present day.”My family moved to an Ojo “face-me-I-face-you” apartment when I was seven years old. I was born in Orile Iganmu, Lagos.

We shared a room with roughly nine or ten other people. Being the eldest child, I experienced numerous financial hardships during my childhood. Money was really scarce. Due to unpaid fees, I was frequently sent home from school and ultimately had to retake the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination five times.

After singing a song that featured the name of veteran actress Ngozi Ezeonu, Crayon also spoke about his first encounter with her.

“To start with, I’m grateful for the Mavin Records marketing team. Ella, the head of marketing, proposed that we collaborate with Ngozi Ezeonu while we were debating how best to promote my song, “Ngozi.”

“So, I got in touch with her management, then with her directly, and

told her about the idea. She was quite receptive to the notion. She has such a tender spirit. Since her kids used to play the song around the house, she was actually familiar with it. Seeing her made me very happy, and it was like coming full circle for me because my mother is one of her biggest fans, and I grew up watching her in movies.

“My mother got really excited when I showed her the video of my visit. One of my funniest and best moments of the year was that visit. “Someone even thought she was my mother when I uploaded the videos and pictures,” he said.
