Sarah Burton grew up in Manchester, England, with her parents, Anthony and Diana Heard, and four siblings. She attended Withington Girls’ School in Manchester before studying at Manchester Polytechnic. She later graduated from Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London in 1997.
Career
In 1996, during her studies, Sarah interned at Alexander McQueen. After graduating, she joined the company full-time and became the head of womenswear design in 2000. Following McQueen’s death in 2010, she was appointed Creative Director. She gained international acclaim for designing Kate Middleton’s wedding dress in 2011.
In September 2024, Sarah became the Creative Director of Givenchy, overseeing both women’s and men’s collections. Her debut collection for Givenchy premiered at Paris Fashion Week in March 2025.
