Early Life and Education
Siminalayi Fubara, fondly called “Sim,” was born into the Fubara and Jaja families in Opobo Town, Rivers State. He is the second of five children and the first son of the late Elder Joseph Fubara, a former soldier, and the late Mrs. Love Joseph Fubara, a civil servant. His name, “Siminalayi,” means “the poor may beget the rich” in the Opobo-Ibani dialect.
He began his education at Opobo Primary School, where he obtained his First School Leaving Certificate in 1986. He then proceeded to Comprehensive Secondary School, Opobo, and earned his West African School Certificate in 1992.

Fubara furthered his education at the Rivers State University of Science and Technology, where he studied Accountancy. He later obtained a Postgraduate Diploma in Accounting from Enugu State University of Science and Technology. His quest for academic excellence led him to obtain a Master of Business Administration (MBA) and a Master of Science (MSc) in Finance from the University of Port Harcourt Business School in 2013 and 2016, respectively.
Career
Professional Career
Siminalayi Fubara started his career in 2003 as a classroom teacher at Comprehensive High School, Alesa-Eleme, under the Rivers State Post-Primary Schools Board. In 2007, he joined the Rivers State Ministry of Finance as a Senior Accountant. His expertise and hard work saw him rise through the ranks, holding positions such as Principal Accountant, Chief Accountant, Assistant Director, Deputy Director, and Director.
In 2015, he was appointed Director of Finance and Accounts at the Rivers State Government House. By March 2020, he became the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Finance, and in December 2020, he was appointed as the Accountant General of Rivers State, the highest financial position in the state’s civil service.
Political Career
Siminalayi Fubara is a dedicated member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). His loyalty and contributions to the party led to his nomination as the PDP gubernatorial candidate for the 2023 general elections. He won the election and was sworn in as the Governor of Rivers State on May 29, 2023.

Achievements as Governor
Since assuming office, Governor Fubara has launched key developmental projects in Rivers State. One of his most notable achievements includes signing a N195.3 billion contract with Julius Berger for the construction of the Port Harcourt Ring Road project.
