Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, popularly known as Wizkid, was born on July 16, 1990, in Surulere, Lagos. He was raised in a polygamous home, as his father had multiple wives. Wizkid developed an interest in music early, singing in his local church choir.
He attended Ijebu Ode Grammar School and later enrolled at Lagos State University (LASU) before transferring to Lead City University. However, he dropped out to focus on music.
Music Career and Albums
Career Breakthrough (2010-2015)
Wizkid started as a member of a church group called Glorious Five before going solo. He signed with Empire Mates Entertainment (EME) under Banky W and released his debut album, Superstar (2011), featuring hits like Holla at Your Boy and Don’t Dull.
In 2014, he dropped his second album, Ayo, which contained the smash hit Ojuelegba. The song’s remix featuring Drake and Skepta propelled him to international fame.
International Success (2016-Present)
Wizkid’s feature on Drake’s One Dance (2016) made him the first Nigerian artist to top the Billboard Hot 100. He later released Sounds from the Other Side (2017), followed by Made in Lagos (2020), which featured Essence with Tems. The song became a global hit and earned a Grammy nomination.
